During the post WWII era, skiing in the United States saw a boon of development driven in great part by former members of the U.S. Army’s storied 10th Mountain Division. Members of the 10th had been recruited for their born skill on skis and those abilities and passion would see the founding of many of today’s most world renowned ski resorts such as Aspen, Vail, and Beaver Creek. It is not surprising then that many early alpine recreationalists wore equipment of military origins to shield their eyes from the powerful glare of the Colorado sun.
