This Vintage US Army patch is from the 66th Division. We found a slew of these fascinating patches in Sun Valley, Idaho at a vintage shop on our Spring Break last year.
Our research found that the 66th Infantry Division was a unit of the United States Army during World War II. Activated in April 1943. The Division was part of the Sixth Army Group and participated in the Northern France campaign. They trained at Camp Blanding, Florida, and other bases before being shipped overseas to England in November 1944. Their commander, Major General Herman F. Kramer, continued with the division until August 1945, when he was relieved by Major General Walter F. Lauer. Overall the 66th Division suffered many losses. There were 1,098 battle casualties and 849 non-battle casualties, seven missing, and nineteen captured.
